About Ground Up: 
Ground Up PDX is a small-batch nut butter company that employs womxn overcoming adversity to provide them with job skills and training to get back on their feet. We produce peanut-free, honey-sweetened nut butters in flavors such as Cinnamon Snickerdoodle and Coconut Cardamom with chia seeds. Our products are sold in New Seasons, Whole Foods, Fred Meyer, and other PNW retailers, along with significant business through ecommerce.

About the position: 

The Kitchen Lead is a leader who creates a community and will be responsible for supporting the Kitchen Supervisor in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Ground Up Production department. The role entails quality assurance checks, food safety and GMP compliance, and supporting staff with all operations of the kitchen.

Type of Position: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Wage Range: Starts at $19.50/hour with annual wage evaluation

Benefits: PTO accrual

Schedule: Monday through Thursday* between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.

*Ground Up currently operates on a four day work week and typically flexes up to 5 days November and December.

Responsibilities

Job Related Tasks

  • Train and coach staff on production duties
  • Support production and operations leadership in process improvement initiatives
  • Assist in onboarding and training new kitchen team members
  • Set up, break down, clean, and maintain production equipment
  • Responsible for product quality including taste testing and ensuring each batch is up to our standards
  • Responsible for maintaining standards of safety and sanitation in the kitchen, including blade checks, jewelry checks, food safety hazards, cleanliness, etc.
  • Responsible for visual checks of the final product—each jar should be properly labeled, tampered, with no visual defects etc.
  • Cultivate positive team culture and promote an environment in which employees are engaged, empowered, and committed to the success of the company 
  • Coach, guide, train and give meaningful feedback to staff
  • Assist in other production and warehouse related projects
  • Take reasonable direction from supervisors
  • All other duties as assigned    

Safety & Good Manufacturing Practices

  • Maintain high standards of quality and sanitation in line with Ground Up policies.
  • Understand and facilitate a safe work culture, ensuring compliance with all company safety/environmental and housekeeping policies 
  • Ensure sanitation practices and record keeping are maintained to complaint food safety regulatory requirements
  • Abide by OSHA regulations and help encourage safety culture

Skills

  • Effective communicative in both oral and written form
  • Ability to coach and provide feedback to team members 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill to safely and effectively operate standard food service equipment 
  • Attention to detail 
  • Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Flexible and adaptable to fast paced, changing environments
  • Must demonstrate problem-solving in a solutions based approach
  • Able to make decisions and prioritize tasks accordingly
  • Must have the capability to multi-task ongoing projects and day-to-day responsibilities 
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs & able to stand on feet for extended periods with or without reasonable accommodation.
