Meet Alexis

Meet Alexis

Meet Alexis, one of our incredible production apprentices!

Alexis brings heart, dedication, and an inspiring spirit to our production team at Ground Up. Since joining the program, she’s become a true example of what’s possible when someone is given the space to grow, learn, and be supported every step of the way. Whether she’s operating the filling machine, inspecting jars, or working side by side with her team to keep production flowing smoothly, Alexis shows up with a can-do attitude and a commitment to teamwork that helps make our kitchen the uplifting space it is.

Keep reading to hear more about Alexis' journey here at Ground Up + her favorite way to enjoy Snickerdoodle!

What does your day-to-day look like at Ground Up?

I guess a little bit of everything: filling and lidding jars, tampering and making sure the tape is in the grooves. It’s really about team work, It doesn't work [the flow] unless the team works. You start with mixing and move from there to the filler, inspection of the jars – we are handling every transition as a team.

What do you like most about working at Ground Up?

Very supportive, everyone here is nice, calm, and the environment is positive. Even when folks are having an off or bad day they don’t want to bring that negative energy to work. It is a great space to learn, grow and change. I actually receive direction and support, proper training for the job.

What is a new skill to you or something new you have learned about yourself at Ground Up?

Working the filling machinery. I have learned not every work place is going to tear you down. Some places (employers) have already decided if they like me or not before a full week of work.

I like the rules of conduct here because we get to talk about them openly as a team, the rules and respect apply to all.

How has your confidence grown since joining the Ground Up team?

My confidence has grown a lot…I have been afraid to talk with people. I have learned how to communicate with managers in a way that is supportive and not scary. I’m learning how to communicate better with

Who’s someone that inspires you?

My mom, she has been through addiction most of her life and has worked so hard to change and correct that. She has regained trust and worked so hard to be in a good place with our family.

What does it mean to you to have a job opportunity and be back in the work force?

Currently my other job is ending, so I am really engaged in looking for work outside of the program. I love it here. It's a lot of work but I am proud of what I have done for myself.

What’s your favorite flavor and way to eat it?

Snickerdoodle right out of the jar!
