Meet Theresa

If you’ve ever wondered who’s behind the dreamy swirl of your favorite nut butter or the perfect crunch in your granola, meet Theresa—our Production Specialist and all-around quality queen! Theresa first joined us three years ago through our job training program as a Production Apprentice. Today, she’s a key player on our team, bringing consistency, care, and a whole lot of pride to everything that leaves our kitchen.
We sat down with Theresa to hear more about her story, her passion for quality, and what it means to be part of the Ground Up team! Read more below!
What brought you to Ground Up, and what was it like getting started in the training program?
I’d been out of the workforce for quite awhile. CCC (non-profit partner) referred me to Ground Up and I got hired into the training program. I’ve now been at Ground Up for 3 years!
When I first started, I struggled with showing up and attendance. I couldn’t seem to get it together. I knew I wanted to be a productive member of society, so I worked on my attendance and felt supported by my managers. I just continued to work on showing up until I got in the groove and I’m grateful they gave me a chance and the opportunity to do so . I kept telling myself. It’s okay, I can do.
What has it meant to you to be part of the Ground Up community?
I love it. It’s the best. People are nice and kind. We work with all types of women. It doesn’t matter where you came from or where you’ve been, it’s a good start to get back in the workforce. You can gain some skills, gain confidence and support and move on.
The women I work with are compassionate, empathetic and caring. You can always talk to someone on the staff, even someone who is higher up will make time and give an ear to listen.
You’ve grown so much in your time here—from apprentice to production specialist! What accomplishments are you most proud of?
I’m most proud that I was an apprentice, then a production associate and now a production specialist. I’m so proud I’m growing here and 3 years!
I’m proud of my ability to mix the product and help the new women who come in. I can’t keep what I have, unless I give it away and share it with someone else (the other women.) To pass off my skills, so one day someone can be in my position is exciting.
What keeps you motivated day in and day out?
To be an inspiration for other people is motivating. I have plenty of days that I don’t get enough sleep and yet now I show up every day and have amazing attendance. I love my job and I’m good at it! Someone taught me how to tamper and that was hard for me, until it stuck. They took the time to show me how to do it. I want to do the same for other women joining the training program.
What is your favorite flavor?
My favorite flavor is Cinnamon Snickerdoodle and I like to eat it with ice cream!
